Business Security Starts with MFA – Why Should You Care?

When implementing Multi-factor authentication (MFA), businesses tend to ask which applications they should have it on. The answer is simple; all applications should have multi-factor authentication to keep your data and network secure. Multi-factor authentication is a method where a user must provide multiple pieces of evidence to be granted access to the application.  LaScala believes it is important to have multi-factor authentication, so we wanted to give you some insight on why this is implemented so much. In this article, we will be talking about the following:

  1. Why should the customer care about multi-factor authentication?
  2. What are the risks of not having multi-factor authentication?

Consider this…

You’re working through your day and suddenly you get an email that looks realistic from one of your coworkers. You have no reason to believe that it is a hacker trying to access your network. They are emailing you about your password to a certain application. So, to make it easy on them, you give them the information. Little do you know; you just gave the hacker your information… Not having multi-factor authentication will make this easier for you to get access to your data. The hacker will have nowhere to go with your information if it is enabled on your applications. From there, the hacker can install malware, spyware, ransomware or even extract your data to sell to competitors. This situation could cripple your business.

Multi-factor authentication is an easy method of keeping your businesses safe. Making security a high priority in business is in everyone’s best interest. It is important enough for LaScala to have it implemented as well. We pride ourselves on keeping your business safe.

Why should the customer care about Multi-factor authentication?

Multi-factor authentication helps keep your data and network secure. You have multiple authentication layers to access your application. It lowers the likelihood of being hacked because the potential threat will be deterred from going through the additional layers to retrieve the information. LaScala strives to keep your data and network safe.  The overall goal of this concept is to ensure the data does not get into the wrong hands and stays protected.

What are the risks of not having Multi-factor authentication?

Another risk is email phishing attempts that look very realistic. These attempts look like an internal email that has a link or an attachment. These links will ask for your credentials to your computer. This will give the hacker the password to your computer and everything you have access to on the network. Sounds scary but we can help deter the bad guys by adding addition security measures such as multi-factor authentication.

If your information is hacked into, make sure you change your passwords and do not pay any money towards the ransom. Security needs to be top of mind in the company. Having ransomware can shut your whole business down and that is not what we want.
